Serious injuries involved in KC motorcycle crash

While the following story is a bit older, the age of the story has nothing to do with the details and the content of it. A motorcycle was involved in a crash with a passenger vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri, leading to a devastating accident that left the motorcyclist with serious injuries that required hospitalization.

More data on motorcycle accidents shows the scale of the problem

About five months ago, we wrote a post about motorcycle accidents and how the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found some alarming data from 2015. That post will seem similar to today's post as we talk about a report from Canada that reviewed people in Ontario hospitals who suffered motor vehicle injuries from 2007 to 2013.

Cold weather motorcycle riding tips

With fall starting to settle in and winter right around the corner, you could find yourself riding in some less than optimal weather conditions. From high winds to sudden rain storms and icy roads, riding a motorcycle in these conditions becomes even riskier. Even if you have years of experience, it only takes one slick patch in the road to lay your bike down.

Motorcyclist hospitalized following crash with pickup truck

A 37-year-old man from Kansas was injured recently in Ellsworth County after his motorcycle crashed with a pickup truck that was hauling a trailer. The accident occurred on Interstate 70 around 7 p.m. with the vehicles being in the right lane. It appears that the pickup truck with the trailer was braking and the motorcycle collided with the trailer. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet but he still needed to be hospitalized for the injuries he suffered.

Helmet use is low among motorcyclists in Kansas

Motorcycle accidents in the state of Kansas have remained remarkably consistent over the last decade. Consistency is not exactly something you want to celebrate when it comes to motor vehicle accidents of any kind, but it is interesting just how consistent the statistics are for motorcycle accidents in Kansas.

2015 motorcycle accident data sounds the alarm

Motorcycle accident data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for 2015 reveals a startling uptick in the number of fatalities year over year. In 2014, there were 4,594 deaths in motorcycle accidents. But that figure skyrocketed in 2015, up to 4,976 deaths. That marks an 8.3 percent increase in motorcycle accident fatalities.

Motorcycle helmet improvements can aid riders

As the years have gone by, technological advancements have proven to increase car safety. There are side air bags, rearview cameras that display video to a car's dashboard, automated braking systems, lane departures warnings, and many other safety improvements that have improved the lives of car drivers. But what about motorcyclists? Given the nature of the vehicle, it is difficult to make major technological advancements that improve motorcycle safety.

Three keys to safety for motorcycle riders

There is something about riding a motorcycle that never gets old. Perhaps it is the adrenaline rush that comes with the quick acceleration, the ability to quickly weave through traffic, and to hug turns at high speeds. Given the width of our roads, riding motorcycles in Kansas City can be thrilling. However, riding motorcycles comes with certain dangers, and everyone who loves being on a bike should be aware of them.
